Federal Law No. 257-FZ of July 23, 2025 was published, increasing the validity period of the Russian electronic visa.

Thus, an electronic visa to Russia will be valid for 120 days with a stay of up to 30 days.

Now, after obtaining a visa, a foreigner will be able to enter Russia within 120 days from the date of issuance of the visa. The maximum period of stay in the country with an electronic visa has been increased from 16 to 30 days.

A law has also been adopted, according to which it will not be possible to leave the Russian Federation with a birth certificate, only with a foreign passport. A birth certificate will no longer be an identity document for a citizen of the Russian Federation who has not reached the age of 14 and it cannot be used to leave Russia. Those who left the country before the law was adopted can return to Russia with it.
Now, children will need a foreign passport to leave and enter.

Amendments have also been made to the Law "On the State Border of the Russian Federation" regarding the rules for crossing the Russian border. Now, by decision of the Government of the Russian Federation or in accordance with international treaties of Russia, it may be possible to cross the Russian border outside the established border points.

The changes regarding the electronic visa will come into force on 23.08.2025.

The changes concerning the birth certificate - on 20.01.2026.

The amendments regarding crossing the Russian border will come into force on the day of publication of the document (23.07.2025).
